What people are saying about The Courthouse

Lovely location and very friendly host\'s - Rating 5/5

This was our 2nd visit this year to The Court House, which as usual was excellent . Richard and Tanya are the host\'s who are very professional and friendly . On arrival we sat in the garden overlooking the River Conway where we were supplied with a pot of tea and delicious homemade chocolate cake by Tanya .We stayed in our usual room , The Lawyers Room which has lovely views over the River Conway. The room had a large very comfy bed and an excellent en-suitewith a lovely walk in shower, everything was spotlesslyclean. We most certainly will be making a return visit next year .

Short holiday break. - Rating 4/5

We were greeted by the host. Richard. He was very welcoming. The location of the courthouse was well situated. Lovely views of the area. Quiet and peaceful.Close walking distance to the little town and it\'s amenities. The house was clean, well maintained. The breakfast was fresh, with a good variety of choice set in the conservatory overlooking the valley and river. The bedroom wassmall, but adequate for our needs. We would certainly recommend it and will visit there again. (I even got a surprise birthday card, present, and had birthday decorations put up in the room)

We have holidayed in Betwys-y-Coed several times over the years as a base for visiting Snowdonia &the Welsh coast staying in different accommodation on each visit. The Courthouse is now certainly top of our list. The location, room, meals could not be faulted during our stay. The theme based on the history of the building was clever &interesting. The attention paid by Richard to each guests needs was a masterclass in personal service. Highly recommended !

Stayed here 2 nights. Very handy for village centre. Stayed in cell room which was very interesting as it is a former cell but it is small. it does however also have a small ante room which adds space to put stuff.Owner very nice and helpful. Awesome and extensive breakfast.It\'s a real B&B so no lounge or bar or anything like that.

Another wonderful stay at The Courthouse - Rating 5/5

We absolutely love this beautiful bed and breakfast in this stunning location. This was our third stay and we have already booked for number 4. We have stayed in the Handcuff room and the Lawyers room which had amazing views over the river and over to the forest. Both rooms have unique charm and character and are beautifully maintained, comfortable and spotless. The little touches really add to every stay. Breakfast is delicious and we feel totally spoilt! There is choice for everyone and it is clear that a lot of care is taken. Richard and Tanya are wonderful hosts who take time to make sure you are well looked after and have great knowledge and passion for the whole area which they are happy to share. Thanks again for a lovely time at The Courthouse and looking forward to next time.

Had a brilliant overnight stay at the courthouse. Arrived around 4pm and was offered a drink in the garden. It came with a lovely slice of cake and was most unexpected but absolutely wonderful. It was a very comfortable room and had everything you could need. Breakfast was a full Welsh and cooked to perfection. The chopped fresh fruit rounded it off. It was well worth the cost and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. I will certainly go back again

Amazing Nights In The Cells! - Rating 5/5

Absolutely Amazing!I could not fault our stay at the Court House AT ALL. Having mentioned to Richard and Tanya that it was my partner\'s birthday, we arrived to a decorated room, and 10 minutes after we arrived Richard brought in a lovely birthday cake- complete with candles. The room itself was thoughtfully decorated, whilst keeping it\'s historic roots (we stayed in the Cell Room!). Breakfast was delicious, plentiful and varied. You could select anything from porridge to a full Welsh breakfast with accompanying cereals and fresh fruit. Packed Lunches were lovely too - exactly what you needed when climbing Snowdon!Richard was also exceptionally helpful, offering us advice on what to do in the area, printing off information sheets, providing maps, and even advising which pubs in the village would be showing the football!I cannot recommend the Court House enough and would like to say thank-you to both Richard and Tanya for making our stay amazing!

What a perfect place to stay for a wedding anniversary! We loved the attention to detail both with interesting, beautiful décor but also to making sure that all information, such as especially printed outwalks and menus of local eating places were available. The breakfasts were excellent and there was a good choice from a full Welsh one to porridge! On the return from a delicious celebratory evening meal out, we found a lovely wedding anniversary card, small heart shaped chocolates and a \' pink covered bunch of chocolate tulips\', such a thoughtful gesture. There is so much to do and see in the area the time went by too quickly! The views out of the 2 bedroom windows looking over the river, were a touch of Heaven on Earth. Thank you Richard and Tanya for giving us such wonderful memories of those 2 days. Looking forward to another stay with you. Tim and Anne

Firstly we were greeted with fresh coffee and cake in reception and a friendly atmosphere. Family run B&B who obviously take the time to think about their customers needs and a huge array of local information and furtherafield for your stay in wales. The room was clean, overlooking the garden and river and again was full of local info including up to date menus for all the local restaurants and stock of tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Breakfast, which was chosen the previous evening was delicious and rather a large size with the option of purchasing a packed lunch if required and all with very good quality products. Off road parking is also available and a lovely graven to sit in overlooking the river, fields and lambs at this time Thank you very much and would highly recommend to anybody stayingin the area.

Courthouse \"Highly Recommended\" - Rating 5/5

We have just had a very pleasant 4 night stay at The Courthouse B&B. Richard was very helpful and very pleasant to his guests. We stayed from Thursday to Monday over the New Year period. After being out all day on New Years Eve, we returned to find a bottle of Proseco and 2 champagne flutes in our room. The choice at breakfast was amazing, We had the Fingerprint room and found it very comfortable. The added advantage is the private car park, as even at this time of year it is very difficult to park in Betws y Coed. Would recommend and definitely stay here again when in Wales.

The B&B is located in a perfect location to use as a base for exploring Betws-y-Coed and the surrounding area. It is walking distance to the local shops and attractions, and is not a long drive away at all for Snowdon. The B&B is very comfortable and well themed. The owners do their best to cater for you and look after you throughout the stay as well as suggesting areas of interest to visit. The breakfast is good and they offer a variety of options to choose from. The packed lunch offer worked well for me as I was out during the day away from local amenities. They helped me with arranging to have an early pre prepared breakfast one day (with pastries and preserves) as I had to go out before breakfast was served which was very nice of them. Our room was tastefully decorated and the bed was comfortable. It was very nice to return to after a day out in the weather. We would happily stay again.

Attention to detail - Rating 5/5

It was a pleasure to be welcomed warmly by our host, Richard for our family get-together in Betws-y-Coed. The peaceful location was much appreciated, as were the three delightful rooms booked - a lot of attention to detail to make our stay very comfortable and interesting.Delicious breakfast cooked to perfection by Tanya - nothing was too much trouble. Our final morning spent on a riverside walk, suggested by Richard, was just what we needed, to set us up for the long journey home and busyness of the London and Home Counties area. Our only regrets are that we could not stay longer and that our Snowdon Heritage Train from Llanberis was cancelled at the last minute due to breakdown and lack of replacement engines - three out of action - maybe a modern replacement would not have the character, but would avoid the disappointment. We hope to make a return visit and will not hesitate to book at The Courthouse again, as it was a very enjoyable time. Very high standard of cleanliness, super soft towels, comfortable bed, beautiful surroundings and setting too.Thank you Richard and Tanya

Dear David, many thanks for taking the trouble to write a review and for your complimentary comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed your short stay with us. You were lovely guests and it was a pleasure to meet you all and to host you. Great pity about the Snowdon railway being out of service - it only operates 5 months of the year anyway - but hopefully it will be OK for your next visit, which we very much look forward to. Thank you for staying with us and best regards to everyone. Richard & Tanya

Wheat Free Zone - Rating 5/5

We have just recently spent 3 lovely days at the Court House B&B in Betws-y-Coed, Gwynedd. We had the Lawyers Room which overlooks the river, and the fields with the baby lambs. Really gorgeous. The house is extremely quiet which I really valued as I am a very light sleeper and hear \"the grass growing\"I have only recently being diagnosed with a wheat and dairy intolerance, and Tanya and Richard went to no end of trouble to make sure I had my wheat free cereal and wheat free bread. Tanya even left some lovely wheat free biscuits up in our bedroom so that I could have a cuppa and a biscuit, and not feel left out. We had some lovely walks thanks to Richards detailed walking maps, and the area is so beautiful and there is so much to do, that we parked our car the day we arrived and didn\'t use it again until we left to return home. We would like to thank Tanya and Richard for a lovely stay and we will definately make a a return visit in the future and maybe next time bring some friends with us. Looking forward to it. We arrived to a warm welcome from Tanya who made us coffee and cake. Our room was very nice overlooking the garden and river, its in a quiet road but within a two minute walk from shops etc. and with the added bonus of its own car park. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection I tried welsh oatcakes with my full welsh breakfast and enjoyed them everything was freshly cooked and well presented. It was my husbands birthday on our last day and Tanya presented him with a birthday cake complete with candles! he was really touched. We would definitely recommend staying at the Court House and when next in Wales will return there.

Lots of little extras such as water bottles (not needed this time)and free, uncomplicated wifi. We appreciated the coffee and cake given to us on arrival. The breakfast was wonderful with a good choice and exceptional fresh fruit salad. Service was great and there was even free parking. I can highly recommend this for a relaxing weekend.

Enjoyable B & B - Rating 4/5

Ideally situated, well kept quirky B &B. My wife and I had the Fingerprint room which was well appointed - the bed was super comfortable. My mother ,85, had the Cell on the ground floor. Perhaps the sofa in this room would be better if replaced with a table and 2 chairs with a view of the TV.Water pressure a bit low in the showers. The breakfast was fantastic and really set you up for the day. Richard and Tanya were perfect hosts and nothing was too much for them. Definitely stay again.

Perfect B&B - Rating 5/5

We stayed for 3 nights at the Courthouse. The building was beautiful and the location could not have been better. It was so central, just off the main road and 3 mins walk from the station but so quiet and peaceful. We were met by Richard who brought us coffee, tea and homemade cakes in the garden, which again is stunning overlooking the river. We told him our plans to climb Snowden and have nice walks. He was extremely helpful with so much information. We took all his advice as we were novice climbers, and we were very grateful for it.He also gave us printouts with directions of local walks he had put together that we mentioned being interested in.We stayed in the handcuff room which we requested to be a twin, very nice, spacious, comfortable and spotless. The breakfast, we were totally spoilt. Each morning we came down to fresh fruit salad containing every fresh fruit you can imagine, cereals, preserves, yogurts, tea, coffee, toast. You also have a choice of all different cooked or continental. We opted for the full Welsh breakfast each day, this was delicious.Opt for the poached eggs with breakfast, we had 12 between us and everyone was perfect.Richard and Tanya were so kind, nothing was too much and their hosting skills were 5 star.

Tania and Richard were wonderful hosts, thank you both for an excellent stay . We shall certainly make a return visit later this year. The only negative about our stay was having to go home.

Booked this b and b for my partners birthday weekend. We had never stayed in a b and b as always stayed in large chain hotels but we were pleasantly surprised. When we got there there was a car park. We knocked the door and we were greeted by Richard . he was delightful he showed us straight to our room although we were early. He then gave us coffee and cake in the garden which was stunning. Our room was lovely (interrogation room) had views over the river and garden. Room was well equipt and had a really good guest book with info of local places to see and where to eat. You could also order your breakfast in advance the night before which was nice. Breakfast was amazing there was juice and yougarts and fruit then we had toast and tea or coffee and then had our main and it was wonderful. We were asked if we wanted more of anything which is lovely especially for the larger eater. Over all we loved our stay and the hosts were so helpful with everything.

We stayed in the fingerprints room which was spotlessly clean and quaint as it was under the eaves. There was hot water whenever we needed it, although the shower could have been a bit more powerful. Breakfast was excellent and I particularly enjoyed tasting the laver bread scones which were really yummy. The Verdict - Rating 4/5

A charming, slightly quirky B&B which will definitely appeal those who like something a little different:the Court House is in a secluded location but within easy walking distance of the village. Our clean, comfortable, nicely furnished room was a little on the chilly side, but then it is December, and in fairness to the owners it is possible that the previous guests had lowered the thermostat on the radiator which, at the time, we did not think to check! However, once we located a heater in the wardrobe everything was fine. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and all beautifully presented. Our hosts, Richard and Tanya were attentive without being intrusive - tea and cake on arrival is a really nice touch - and the way they have incorporated the original use of the building into their current business makes for a fabulous talking, not to mention, selling point! Would definitely stay again and have already recommended to many friends.

A gem in Snowdonia. - Rating 5/5

I recently arranged an overnight stay in The Courthouse as a surprise for my husband\'s birthday. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm welcome, as well as tea and cake served in the garden! My husband was fascinated by the small collection of Police memorabilia in the entrance hall of The Courthouse, which, along with a genuine cell door, echoes the buildings heritage as the local courthouse and Police Station. Our room was extremely clean and well-appointed, with tea/coffee making facilities and more edible goodies, as well as bottled water and an array of high quality shampoos etc. in the bathroom, a nice touch I never expected in a B&B. After a good sleep, we faced a huge and delicious cooked breakfast but, having made the mistake of already tucking into the cereals and fruit available in the dining room, we both struggled to get through this. The owner then entered with a pastry, complete with lit candle and a birthday card for my husband! This lovely touch sealed our decision to return for a longer stay in The Courthouse as soon as possible. I would highly recommend a stay here.

Steve & Kerrys' stay @ Courthouse - Rating 5/5

Fantastic stay at the Courthouse B&B. Lovely building and great accommodation. The view of the country side from the dining room was stunning and the breakfast was probably the best breakfast we've ever had, and we've had a few! Richard was very welcoming and the perfect host. Will definitely stay again and have already recommended it to our friends.

“It just gets better” - Rating 5/5

I visited with my husband for two nights, 10th and 11th August. This was our second visit to the Courthouse and we had been so looking forward to returning to this beautiful place. We stayed in the interrogation room which has views over the garden and the river. It's a lovely room, very comfortable with plenty of space and a lovely large bathroom with bath and shower. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the room was how clean and fresh it was and the attention to detail, all of which added to our stay.Richard greeted us when we arrived and he and Tanya were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The guest information book was useful. The names on the breakfast menu were entertaining, the food delicious and beautifully presented in the lovely conservatory/breakfast room - even the squirrels in the garden put on a show for us!We have stayed in Betws Y Coed four times now and this is the only place we have returned to. The only regret is that we couldn't stay longer - we definitely plan to return!Thank you Richard and Tanya

Response

Lovely stay - Rating 5/5

We had a wonderful stay at The Courthouse in August 2014. We were warmly greeted by Tanya on arrival, and given a bit of info. about the history of the building. The room itself was beautiful and exceptionally clean, with stunning views over the garden and river on both sides. It felt like a secluded riverside retreat, and yet still within a five-minute walk of the pubs and restaurants. In the morning, we met Richard, who was kind enough to even wish us a happy anniversary! The breakfast was delicious and well presented, and we were able to sit in the garden overlooking the river to finish off our morning coffee – perfect. Everything about our stay was calming and effortless – exactly how a break should be!

Response

Thank you very much Hayley. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, short though it was. We hope to welcome you back again in the future.Best regards Richard & Tanya

Long weekend - Rating 5/5

I surprised my wife on her 40th birthday with a long weekend in Snowdonia, Betws-y-Coed. I chose the courthouse as it had some great reviews and when we arrived it certainly didn't disappoint. A beautiful guest house set in an area that is picture perfect. Upon arrival we were greeted by Richard who was very accommodating and welcomed us with coffee and cake in the garden, which was welcomed after a long journey. The room was fantastic, clean and ideal for our needs and the food was of a high quality. The menu is plentiful with some very interesting names in keeping with the theme of the guest house. I will leave this for you to find out for yourself when you stay. A real must do.

Response

Thank you Ben it was a pleasure to host you both. Hope to welcome you again in the future.

The Jury's Verdict - Rating 5/5

Richard and Tanya were found guilty at 'The Courthouse' Betws-y-coed on 25th July 2014. In a dramatic trial, the jury of Jennifer and Lee following a very speedy deliberation came to the decision that until they visit The Courthouse Hotel again (which they definitely plan to do) their hosts should be sentenced to great success, wealth and happiness for the crimes of wonderful hospitality, scrumptious food and the heinous crime of creating a relaxed comfortable place to stay. GUILTY AS CHARGED...Thank you ever so much Richard &Tanya.

Response

Tanya and Richard accept the fair verdict of the jury and will humbly serve the sentence of the court, continuing to provide guests with impeccable service, hospitality, food and comfortable relaxation. We are delighted that the jury ( Jennifer & Lee) enjoyed their sojorn at The Courthouse and we hope to welcome them back in the future for another trial!!! Many thanks!

Very pleasant stay - Rating 5/5

Beautiful little village made more enjoyable by lucking into a booking at the Old Courthouse.Be aware their policy is a minimum 2-night booking but we were fortunate that Richard &Tania had 1 night free in the Handcuffs Room. Each room has a "police procedural"name -Interrogation Room &so on - which adds a unique touch of whimsy to the stay. All round the place are remnants &reminders of the building's past as a real courthouse with prison cells. As an example, the sign warning the clumsy against tumbling ~15 metres into the river from the back garden says it's for "Executions Only".The whole place is beautifully presented, the rooms are very clean and comfortable, the full breakfast is delicious but should only be attempted by the very hungry, &Richard's advice about the local walking tracks is worth listening to.We'd like to return some day, both to Betws-Y-Coed &to the Old Courthouse, but that depends on the availability of accommodation. Both are really popular places.

Response

Thank you for your kind comments.Wew hope to welcome you back again someday!

we really enjoyed our stay with Richard and Tanya, they were very friendly and helpful, the room we were in (the interigation room) was comfortable the bathroom was lovely, the breakfasts really set you up for the day, the only niggle i might have, is along with nearly all b&bs,they only provide proper seating for one, in a room meant to be occupied by two persons.

A Delightful Experience - Rating 5/5

Staying at The Courthouse was an absolute pleasure. It is located off the main road in Betws-y-Coed and by the River Conwy, making it an attractive alternative to B&Bs which clutter the high street. The B&B benefits from having a good size car park for those not using public transport;indeed the exterior of The Courthouse is very attractive. We stayed in early spring and the garden was coming into bloom - no doubt in summer this will be absolutely beautiful. Our hosts were delightful and presented us with tea and refreshments upon arrival. We stayed in "The Interrogation Room", which is not as onerous as it sounds;quite the opposite, in fact. It has a four poster bed and views directly onto the River Conwy and the stunning landscape beyond. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room and bathroom were both immaculately presented, which is a testament to the hard work which the owners have put in.Breakfast was beautifully cooked and there were many choices on the menu, offering a range of alternatives depending upon one's diet. We dearly hope to stay here again in the near future. In the meantime, The Courthouse comes highly recommended.
